Clean out bookmarks

I am in the process of cleaning up my bookmarks. Over the years, a whole bunch of duplicates have accumulated there, making my bookmarks pretty much useless. I just can’t find anything anymore. So I’m sorting out the duplicates right now. For this I use the Chrome extension “Bookmarks clean up“. It’s a very handy tool, but with a bit few settings, so that in the end there’s still a lot of manual work left.

A journey through time with bookmarks

But the advantage is: browsing through all the bookmarks I created ten or more years ago is like going back in time. To see which topics used to be important to me and especially which pages used to exist. Because many of the URLs still exist. But the pages behind them are completely different. And partly the pages are actually still there: Be it the old state from a few years ago or actually with current content. For example, there are blogs that are more than ten years old, but are still maintained today.

Like an old diary

The whole thing reminds me a bit of leafing through an old diary. In the last few years, I’ve pretty much stopped bookmarking. I figured that in a time when search engines are getting better and better, I hardly ever look in anyway, and that bookmarks are no longer needed when you can also find what you’re looking for faster with a simple Google search. But maybe I should change that again. Maybe I should bookmark more again, so that in a few years I can remember what is important to me today and how the internet was in 2023.

Using AI to remove voices

I came across a plugin called “GOYO Voice Separator” by chance. Thanks to AI, it promises to be able to extract the voice from any audio file with only three controls – be it to turn a song with vocals into an instrumental or to add other background music to the voice. And voice recorded with background noise such as reverb or underground noise should also be able to be used clean.

Practical test

Of course, this sounds great in the demos on the website, but in the practical test Goyo could not keep its promises. In the channel with the voice, you can often still hear parts of the musical instrument, the voice just tears off at the end of a sentence when it gets a little quieter. In addition, it sounds “frayed”.

Result

All in all, a nice toy that can certainly deliver useful results with one or the other audio, but unfortunately nothing more. If you want to check it out for yourself: the tool is available for free in the beta version.

The last day

A new year – a new song. I used the last day of 2022 to finally write a new song. The title, however, is not very original: “The last day”. It has become a relatively dark techno track. The idea was to capture the feeling at the end of a really exhausting year. And 2022 was really not easy. The result is this track, which I will soon upload to patreon.com/lagomorpha after a long Patreon break. By the way, I was inactive for so long that Patreon had already shut down my page… Well, I only have one paying follower there (thanks, Chris!). Even if you have probably long forgotten that by now…), but no wonder – if you do nothing for the platform. So now I’m trying to revive my page there. If it stays at one follower until the end of the year, I’ll probably just let it go. Anyway, there will be new music soon! Rejoice! Yeah!

Merry Christmas!

So here we are again: Christmas. In the past few years, I haven’t just wished people “Merry Christmas”, but have always released new music as a kind of Christmas present. My album “Epsilon” was released at Christmas, my song “The Strangest Year” too and “Home” was also a Christmas release (at least on Spotify & Co.). And this year? Well, unfortunately there’s nothing this year.

It’s been a difficult year

2022 was not a particularly creative year. Unfortunately, I only got to devote myself to my greatest passion, music, very, very rarely. There are a few tracks that I started this year, but I only really released “Stop The War“. That was due to a variety of things. 2022 was just a big challenge. So I was all the more pleased that someone out there still listened to my music from time to time.

The song with probably the longest title I will ever have written, “She tells him that their love is over but they stay friends, even if he still loves her and hopes that she will come back some day“, was played more than 3000 times on SoundCloud this year. Of course, David Guetta would laugh his head off at that, but for me it’s a nice success. And it’s great that people in Pakistan or Egypt like my music. I don’t know how they found my music, but it’s great that they like it.

I don’t know if anyone out there was eagerly waiting to see what kind of music I would release today and if anyone is now disappointed that it’s not happening (I’m pretty sure that’s not the case), but that’s the way it is, unfortunately. But that doesn’t change the fact that I wish us all a nice, peaceful Christmas! Enjoy the time with your loved ones and be kind to each other. Merry Christmas!

Who is Nina Chuba?

With her song “Wildberry Lillet” she became one of the shooting stars of the year: Nina Chuba. I first became aware of her when she performed “Kummer”‘s song “Alles wird gut”. At the time I thought to myself, “Wow, what a great voice! Who is that?”

Nina Chuba is a German actress and singer who grew up in Wedel near Hamburg and began her career at the age of seven as a leading actress in the children’s series “Die Pfefferkörner”. She then had roles in various series and films and was the singer and songwriter of the band BLIZZ from 2016 to the end of 2018, releasing their first EP in April 2018.

In 2020, she released her solo EP “Power” and the EP “Average” the following year. In an interview with Eva Schulz on “Deutschland 3000”, she tells a few messy stories about this time. In October 2021, she decided to focus on German-language songs and released the song “Neben Mir”. Her song “Wildberry Lillet” became her first big hit. Performances at festivals like Deichbrand, the Reeperbahn Festival and Lollapalooza followed.

What I find exciting about her is that she hasn’t really committed herself stylistically yet. Her single “Ich hass Dich” (my favourite song by her), for example, sounds like a Kraftklub song and thus completely different from “Wildberry Lillet”. And “Glatteis” is something completely different again. Her debut album “Glas” is due to be released in February 2023. I’m very curious to see what it will sound like then. One-hit wonder or next big superstar? Time will tell. In any case, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for her and will definitely listen to “Glas”.

First blog entry

So, my website now also has a blog. I have no idea yet what I will publish here, but search engines like blogs, so here is a blog now. The functionality is still very limited, there is still a lot to do. But the beginning is made. Oh, and sorry if the English here is not quite perfect. I write all the texts in German and then have them translated by Deepl. So it’s quite possible that the AI doesn’t work perfectly and that one or two mistakes creep in here.
